Botanical Illustration
Botanical illustration is not only an artistic discipline.
Its purpose is to highlight everything that is essential to taxonomy, enabling the recognition of a species—whether for scientific purposes, science communication, or the preservation of natural heritage. This practice therefore requires, in addition to artistic skills, a solid knowledge and deep understanding of plants and their morphology.
A scientific illustration can accompany a formal description, be published in books, magazines, or scientific journals. The illustrator’s role is to create a visual medium that brings a scientific subject to life, making it accessible, communicable, and shareable.
